Check Engine Light Code: P0107? What do I do?
I own a 2002 Isuzu Axiom and about a week ago my check engine light came on. I went today to auto zone to get it checked out and the code that came from the test was P0107, which has to do with the MAP sensor. Should I have a new MAP sensor put it by an auto shop? I hate to take it to an auto shop and end up spending a lot of money, so I would like to know if there is a guesstimate of about how much something like that would run. When I got my oil changed not too long ago, they told me I needed a new serpentine belt, but I haven't had that replaced yet. Would a new serpentine belt fix my MAP sensor problem? Just wondering if those two were interrelated at all. I know most people would say "take it to a auto repair shop" which I plan to do, but I would like a little more insight or some tips before I do that. Thanks!

Right to choose auto repair shop?
Can anyone tell my what my rights are as far as choosing where I want my car repaired when it is being paid for by someone else's insurance company? I live in WI. Links/documentation would be great if you have anything handy. The damage is fairly straightforward; just a minor fender bender. I had an estimate done at a shop recommended by my brother-in-law, who is also in the car business (he builds and restores engines). Now the insurance company wants to discuss my "options" about getting it fixed. I just want to be prepared if they try and tell me I have to go to a certain place.

Head gaskets/cracked head?
My truck (2000 ford ranger) has been over heating recently. Every time I drive a certain distance it starts to over heat I pull over for about a minute or two it goes down and then its fine the rest of the time. I do not have any milky looking stuff in my oil, no water in the cylinders (spark plugs), no white smoke in tailpipe, my heater works but I feel like it makes the over heating worse so I don't use it. The radiator bucket does have brown liquid in it meaning it could be oil from what I have researched and I do have water coming out of my exhaust pipe. Also I am losing water in my radiator. Other then the over heating my truck runs fine! I have done a lot of research and people say if it were a cracked head my truck would run badly or not run at all. I have taken it to two people now, the first guy said my head gaskets were blown but he was also interested in buying my truck so I am not sure if I should trust his opinion the second guy said its "probably a cracked head". Probably! And the only way to tell is to take it off so Id end up having to replace it even if the head wasn't cracked. So I am looking for some advice, does it sound like it could be head gaskets or a cracked head? I plan on taking it in to get it diagnosed for a 3rd opinion should I tell the people at the auto repair shop whats been going on or let them figure it out for themselves? Getting gaskets fixed is very pricey and I don't want someone saying it is the problem just to make the money when really it is not. I'm a girl who knows nothing about cars! I am also not in a very good money situation right now so I really can't afford to be screwed over by a mechanic. Any help or advice at all would be greatly appreciated! My brother replaced my thermostat today and it fixed the over heating issue so should I assume its not the head gaskets? When I was driving home I heard a pop sound come from the engine and it turned out my radiator coolant cap had popped off so I think maybe something is clogged....not to sure. Just glad its not over heating at the moment!! Ohhh and not sure if this is important but it wasn't like boiling or anything, I stuck my finger in the water and it was fine so I am assuming it is popping off because of pressure. But I am not a mechanic so I am not sure.

can bar still help me if the auto repair shop is operating without a license?
I took my car to a automotive repair shop and had my car engine replaced, two days later my car caught on fire..... I spoke with the owner in regards to incident he took responsibility for the incident, but he only wants to return the repair cost at his leisure. what about the rest of the cars damages. I called consumer affairs and they told me to look it up to see if they are registered licensed auto repair shop.It seems like they are not registered. what actions do i take now??? 2500.00 total out of pocket. I got my family out just in time before car ignited inside....MY arm is bothering me now from banging it during escape. Why should I be out my money when i see lots of cars coming and going and one mechanic says " We even work Sundays ". How can u believe they don't have $ 2,500.00 bucks and I'll be on my happy way. The part that upset me was when he says not to come around only if they call me. Wouldn't that upset someone? I was very cool with them until they started with their games telling me not to come around. I just want what I invested, no more !!! I have sheriff and the fire department reports of my car. I'm willing to work it out and I'll squash it.... I didn't mean to come out as king of the jungle on the first part.!!! I'm trying to avoid any legal action....but what option is left??? Thankyou , for your support. I'm sorry I didn't explain myself correctly , but B.A.R stands for Bureau of Automotive Repair through ( DCA) department of consumer affairs state of Ca. I respect Mr. Knobs answer ,also. Mr.Knob must be a spring chicken peaking at its best. thank you for all positive feedback. Bye Mr.knob...!!!.
